Home Server

This DIY Linux server is the home to this website and much more. I have learned a lot about the Linux command line and web development with this project.

Main Sites on my Server:

  • My Portfolio Site (you’re already here!)
  • Firewatch @ Virginia Tech: Co-founder of this club with the goal of keeping records of all fire alarms that happen on campus. Over 500 students actively reporting.
  • Hoge Hall Minecraft: Self made gaming server with its own website. Mostly dead but has occasional players online.
  • Troop 371 Website: Home of photos, contact info, and calendar events for my home troop.

Server Info:

  • Ubuntu Server 20.04 operating system
  • 128gb ram
  • 2 x Intel Xeon X5660 CPU
  • Apache 2.4.41
  • PHP 7.4.3-4

Electric Mower Conversion

Task: Convert a seized-up gasoline engine mower to electric for a client.

Purpose: Allows for lower maintenance, higher torque, and environmental sustainability all while saving a mower that would otherwise be thrown out.

Outcome: Met all the client’s requirements while still being under budget.

PTimer Fan Module Controller

Task: Create an interface device to detect when a vehicle is running, and then once the vehicle is turned off enable a cooling fan.

Purpose: Prolong the life of a common failure with the Chrylser PT Cruiser: heat soaking of the engine computer.

Outcome: Successful design with custom PCBs and custom C code.

MEDEVAC Swing Stabilization Project

Task: Create an interface system that can control and stabilize a hoist provided by Breeze-Eastern by using a 2-D pendulum stabilization algorithm.

Purpose: Helicopter payloads for medical evacuation are difficult to stabilize once oscillation forces during lifting cause the payload to swing. This can pose a threat to both the crew in the helicopter and the patient attached to the line.

Outcome: Award Winning Design! The project was a huge success with a clear path for future development.

Firewatch
This club that I co-founded started as a small group of students keeping track of Pritchard Hall’s absurd number of fire alarms throughout the semester. It grew to have its own custom website, legitimate registered student organization, and active community.

Moped Club

I am co-founder of the Moped Club. It is a small group of enthusiasts who go for rides, help fix mechanical issues, and collaborate with the motorcycle club.

Galipatia Chat System

I volunteered to help create a chat system for the Virginia Tech Engineering LLC (about 750 members). This chat system is used to disseminate information and allow students to connect during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this project I learned team organization and management skills.

Hoge Hall Minecraft Server

Starting the summer before freshman year of college, I created the HHMC server which has grown from multiple computer upgrades and now has a strong 10 student admin team and frequently collaborates with other organizations on campus.

Eagle Scout Project

This project allowed me to earn my Eagle Scout badge and included restoring a local park back to its former glory. This entailed trash removal, gardening, and trail marking.

3D Printer

From what was once an off-the-shelf 3D printer, this machine was torn apart time after another to achieve a fully customizable firmware, hardware setup, and more.
